Judy Nixon
Before moving to Maine in 1999, I had lived in the Worcester area of Massachusetts. My professional life as a business manager was my early focus. In the mid '90's, I started drawing and painting as a hobby and after relocating to Maine, became more serious about my art.
My husband and I chose the Bristol area because of its great beauty and small town atmosphere, but soon discovered that it also has a lot to offer anyone interested in the arts. Since moving here, I have found so much to inspire me - the ocean with its rocky coastline, lovely gardens, inland waterways, country fields, and quiet forests, all forever changing with the seasons. I enjoy the challenge of recreating a scene from one of my favorite areas, as well as capturing the essence of everyday objects in a still life.
Although my primary medium is watercolor, I also enjoy painting in acrylics and oils, creating monotypes, and using Asian brush. I take images from my paintings to make note cards, greeting cards, and small reproductions on canvas.
The artists I have studied with include Debra Arter, Julie Babb, Sandra Dunn, Jean Harris, Jean Kigel, Jan Kilburn, Tom McCobb, Jim Taliana, and John Whalley. I have learned a great deal from not only these talented artists, but also my fellow students.
A former member of Round Top Center for the Arts in Damariscotta, I am presently a member of the Pemaquid Group of Artists in Lighthouse Park at Pemaquid Point, Boothbay Region Art Foundation in Boothbay Harbor, the Kennebec Valley Art Association in Hallowell, Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset and River Arts in Damariscotta.
Several of my images have been used for the School Union #74 Adult-Ed Brochure cover. I have been a featured artist at the Bristol Area Library, the Bremen Library, and the Boothbay Harbor Library, as well as the Key bank in Boothbay Harbor. I have participated in art exhibits at The Maine Sportsmen's Show in Augusta, and various benefit auctions in the area. My work has been accepted into and received awards at juried shows at the Waterville Area Art Society, the Kennebec Valley Art Association in Hallowell, the Chocolate Church Arts center in Bath, River Arts in Damariscotta, and the Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro.
"Everyone sees things differently through their own eyes, I hope you enjoy looking through mine."
